Information Technology Workshops in Ipoh, Perak

Republic Polytechnic conducted a series of IT workshops for schools in Ipoh, Perak on 27 and 28 October 2009. Participants were given the opportunity to learn how to create breathtakingly realistic 3D landscapes and animations using the 3D illustration and rendering program, Bryce 6.1. Many students and teachers alike who attended the workshops were intrigued with the possibilities which a combination of technology and RP’s problem-based learning approach opened up with respect to creativity, innovation and adaptability to real-life problems. Participating schools in the workshops included SMJK Ave Maria Convent, SMJK Poi Lam and SMJK Yuk Choy.

International Student Excel in RP’s Academy Awards

Lee Cheng ShuAttracted by RP’s unique problem-based learning system and the interesting courses available, Lee Cheng Shu decided to travel to Singapore to continue her studies after completing the SPM examinations in Malaysia. She is now studying for a Diploma in Material Science at the School of Engineering, and once she completes this she hopes to enter Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to pursue further studies in this field.

An all-rounded student who enjoys both work and play, Cheng Shu believes that leading a balanced lifestyle helps her achieve good academic results. She is actively involved in the International Student Club, where she promotes cultural exchanges amongst students from different countries and has been able to strengthen her communication skills in the process.

Cheng Shu credits the use of problem-based learning with sharpening her research and presentation skills, and helping her to focus better. “I have learnt to be more independent in learning as I know that self-directed learning is important. There can be lots of distractions in the surroundings, but one has to practice self-control and self-motivation in learning,” she said.
