Education Beyond Borders
Step into the Republic Polytechnic (RP) campus on any given day and amid the chatter of voices and the swell of students coursing through the school grounds, one thing is evident – clad in similar style of jeans and tees are teenagers from Singapore and beyond.
The RP student population, which numbers at 4,500 per annual intake, comprises up to 500 international students who have made Singapore their home for the next three or four years as they pursue a unique RP education. Most of them hail from China and Malaysia, as well as Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Russia and Korea.
This is in line with Singapore’s agenda to welcome international students from the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and beyond, and how globalisation continues to become a part of educational institutions in Singapore.
RP takes things one step further through its curriculum that’s heavily based on project work and discussions, and by the careful allocation of only one or two international students per class of 25. This foster interaction and encourages good communication skills between students of various geographical backgrounds, ethnicities and cultures.
Once selected and relocated, international students pursuing an RP education are provided with ample opportunities to better integrate themselves into a new country and education systems. There is an active international students club which organises activities such as the Amazing Culture Day and I-Star (a singing competition which sees international students belting out tunes in English and their respective Mother Tongue languages). There will also be invitation to participate in assimilation programme conducted by Singapore Tourism Board.

Student Testimonial
RP Engineering broadened Edward’s engineering knowledge from basic electrical/electronic theories to state-of-art technologies. It gave him an opportunity to explore the real world with its hand-on lab sessions. The exciting engineering daily problems had equipped Edward with engineering knowledge, problem solving skill and circuit troubleshooting skill. All these enable Edward to adapt to the current intense and challenging university life. The engineering modules trained Edward to think out of the box, build up his critical thinking and allow him to apply analytical approach to all real life problems.
The Student Life Activities at RP developed Edward to be a more versatile person and diversified his sights and skills to be a balanced person, not merely just concentrating on studies. Edward loved his student life at RP whereby he studied, played and worked hard.
"It is indescribable to express how I had really enjoyed my three years life in RP as it definitely shapes me better person in every field.", Edward expressed.
Edward wants to work at automation industry after his graduation and wishes to save money for further studies or running a business.
Edward’s motto in life “If it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger”. RP Engineering trained him to be a stronger person.
