RPI Polytechnic Bridging Programme

This course is specifically designed for foreign students who have passed the RP Entrance Test and are offered a place to study in RP.

RP’s implementation of “learning by engagement” has no known counterpart in the world. In this unique yet highly beneficial learning environment, students are required to comprehend what they read and learn while engaging in meaningful discussions and questioning. They are also required to respond critically to questions asked and to express their opinions in both speech and writing.  

The main objective of this course is to equip international students who will be enrolled in RP, the necessary skills to adopt this new learning approach.  This program places a high emphasis not only on a student’s English Language Proficiency but also their skills and knowledge in doing presentations and adapting themselves to work in teams, do independent research, and assimilate themselves into the Singapore culture.

Programme Objectives

• To raise the English Language Proficiency level of students for both academic and social purposes
• To assimilate to the living and social environment in Singapore  
• To create opportunities for interaction with student group and facilitators, thereby building a social support network.
• To build up the confidence of students in public speaking
• To prepare for the learning system at RP (e.g. information mining skills, critique of ideas, self-directed learning skills and PBL)
